Jody Ashford completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts Honours in 2004 at the University of Southern Queensland-Australia. The young Queensland artist has exhibited in local regional galleries as well as Melbourne, Townsville and Brisbane and more recently a solo exhibition at Red Earth Gallery in the UK.
Jody specializes in the medium of sculpture concentrating on plastics, fiberglass and hebel, out of which she creates conceptual works that comment on the condition of softness and humanizing the industrial.
As a sculptor Jody demonstrates an ambitious and refreshing approach to her practice, preferring to listen to the audiences reaction to her work. "The main elements of the work are intense and moving. The simplistic nature of my sculpture gives the viewer an open slate... on which to draw their own story".
Using AutoCAD to design her work, Jody conceptualises and actualises her designs by graduating to small marquets and then progressing to the finished plastic sculptures. Jody recently completed a Certificate IV in Business Management and is currently working on a new series of work for an exhibition.

'Lackadaisical' is a lightweight inflatable air sculpture that comments on the condition of softness. You don't have to be an educated art historian to respond to this work. The sculpture is representative of the childhood wonder, the jumping castle and a sense of fun and play. Dependant upon a machine, Lackadaisical questions the usual assumptions of permanence associated with the medium of sculpture. The sculpture itself can support the weight of an adult or several small children.
